Why go viral?

Viral content is difficult to create and spread; it’s been stated that it might not lead to a higher conversion rate or more sales, and sometimes it might look as spam.

Have you ever trusted to open an email or click on a link with the subject “U gotta read this”? Most email systems would detect such message as spam or harmful to your computer. People are more concerned everyday with certain types of dangerous content they receive, so they are cautious of what they get in their mailboxes and what they open.

So, why do people still want to build viral content? Continuar leyendo »

A numbers game?

Hi all,

Sorry for not sending any post since March. There are no excuses, just apologies. We are very sorry. We still have lots of things to say, you might want to read us again. Thank you very much!

There is still people who think that Social Media is a numbers game. It is still a common thought that is better getting a thousands of contacts in the social media platforms than a bunch of interested followers that really help to spread your message.

When you have a huge number of people following you, your behavior towards your original goals might change. You can change your contents and your language. Your new goal might turn into looking for more followers everyday instead of looking for more interesting contents.

At his stage, you are more likely to use bulk techniques such as:

Massive retweet in Twitter.
i.e. retweet all the messages received containing a certain word.

Comment without a clear target or goal in Facebook
i.e. use other pages to make comments not related to the fanpage topic itself.

Placing a comment in other blogs not really related to yours but with a good page rank, or other special characteristics
i.e. use blogs as advertising platforms

These techniques could be used under short term basis, we do not recommend them to use them more than two weeks from the beginning of the strategy. Social media users are smart and are not afraid to place comments, so you might find in a very few weeks’ time a tweet in Twitter, a comment in Facebook or in your blog saying, “you are a spammer, please stop”, which is not desirable at all.

Size doesn’t matter, presence is everything. It is more important to be there and focus on what you have to say better than focusing in getting more followers every day. Don’t worry, users will find you, be patient.

It is better to act in Social Media the same way as you do in other environments. Be consistent. Be present. Talk, listen and try to understand who your real follower is, try to fulfill their needs and you will be able to see the results faster than you think.

Take care!

Twitter Techniques

Your Twitter account may be suspended if Twitter detects a mass amount of followers and unfollowers that occur irregularly.
There are many tools that can help you find users, but we strongly recommend common sense when using them, and follow only potentially interested users such as the ones that really talk about your brand, product or service.

Those tools let you follow targeted users that can lead your campaign to success. It’s not a matter of having a lot of users, rather to have a bunch of really interested users. What’s most important is to dedicate some time to each user or each user’s question or demand; otherwise they will lose interest.

Some ideas that might help in the relationship with your users can be:
- Retweet them
- Say Thank You! when you are retweeted
- Return a #FF
- Answer some questions they might have
- Tell something to a certain user from time to time

This activity will show that your account and campaign is not fully automated and that there is someone behind the messages.

Surely, it’s a wise decision to use as much automatic tools as you can when concerning background actions (following, monitoring, searching, etc); however, with regards to the user relationship, try to show the human face of the account to maintain and gather more users.
